We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Alachua County

At the Junior League of Gainesville we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us on our toes, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.

Our current community goal is to address food insecurity in our community by partnering with local organizations and experts to provide food and resources to reduce the number of hungry children and food insecure families in Alachua County. To help achieve this goal, we have formed the Alachua County Food Insecurity Advisory Group, which brings together local organizations working to address food insecurity to further collaboration and progress. We have also identified Food4Kids Backpack Program of North Florida as a key partner in our efforts, and provided over 1,500 pounds of food to their organization during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, we purchased and donated an electric pallet lift to Food4Kids to help move food within their warehouse, and are working to raise $50,000 to purchase a food delivery truck that will allow the program to serve additional children and families. To date, we have raised $40,000 towards this goal, with an aim to complete this effort by December of 2021.

Our goal is to help Alachua County women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do, then put those talents to work in the communities that need it. Our current focus of addressing food insecurity gives women opportunities to grow, while positively impacting the communities where they live and work.

We’re Creating Fulfilling Leadership Opportunities Throughout Alachua County

The Junior League of Gainesville offers so much more than local volunteering opportunities! Our League of leaders creates real change by advancing social activism-focused projects that directly benefit the communities of Alachua County. By giving women the tools to lead, educating them about their communities’ needs, and helping them put their unique brand of creativity and skill to work, the Junior League of Gainesville is making a big impact on Alachua County.

We’re Transforming Alachua County Communities By Challenging the Status Quo

No matter what we’re currently focusing on, the Junior League of Gainesville’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action and leadership. We have identified food insecurity as the most pressing issue in our community right now, and we are helping local women take action to resolve it. So far this year, we have already raised $40,000 out of our $50,000 goal, which will be put towards purchasing and donating a food delivery truck to a local organization that provides backpacks to hungry schoolchildren. We believe that these impactful actions have the power to bring us closer to our goal of reducing the number of food insecure families and hungry children in Alachua County.
