Our History

In May 1935, a few young women gathered on the front porch of “Aunt Carrie” (Mrs. James W. McCollum, later Mrs. J.H. Palmer) and began plans for the organization of a Junior Welfare League.

The League was formally organized on May 27, 1935. The League’s purpose, as stated in the Charter, was to “foster interest among its members in the social, economic, educational, and civic conditions of the community and to make efficient their volunteer service.”

Today, the Junior League of Gainesville is a strong, vibrant organization making positive change in our community.
